OMG Facts! :D

Here are some interesting facts I learned today:

1) Anatidaephobia is the fear that somewhere in the world, there is a duck watching you.
They are all watching us...

2) You can't hum while holding your nose closed.
Try it, it's true!

3) Women speak about 7000 words a day. The average man averages just over 2000.
Yea, so there!

4) A Rubik's cube has 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible configurations.
With 6 colored sides, 21 pieces and 54 outer surfaces, there's a combined total of over 43 quintillion different possible configurations. To put that into perspective: if you turned the Rubik's cube once every second it would take you 1400 trillion years to finish to go through all the configurations. If you had started this project during the Big Bang, you still wouldn't be done yet.

5) When you put a seashell next to your ear, it's the sound of your blood surging in your veins, not the ocean.
My childhood, oh my precious childhood T_T

6) The Bible is the number one most shoplifted book of all time.
Oh the irony!

7) Your tongue cannot taste food without saliva.
In order for food to have taste, chemicals from the food must first dissolve in saliva. Once dissolved, the chemicals can be detected by receptors on taste buds.

8) Dogs do NOT have cleaner mouths than humans have.
However, you are less likely to get sick from kissing a dog than you are a human! This is due to the fact that many of the bacteria in a dog’s mouth are species specific and are therefore harmless to human beings.

9) The evolutionary ancestor of whales could walk on land.
Ok I technically already knew this but still, it's interesting dammit!

10) During Prohibition, the U.S. government poisoned alcohol to keep people from drinking it.
In an effort to stop the bootlegging, federal regulators ordered the manufacturers of these industrial alcohols to add deadly poisons to their products. As a result, by the time Prohibition had ended, an estimated 10,000 died from being poisoned by their own government.
